Current projects/priorities:

  • Affordable Law Firm pilot - Creating a low cost / affordable non-profit law firm to support the legal needs of people who do not qualify for legal aid / pro bono but cannot afford commercial legal services. Partnership with the DC Affordable Law Firm and Macquarie University.

  • Rethinking the monopoly - Report on the access to justice implications of lawyers maintaining a monopoly over the provision of legal advice and representation.

  • A2J & Legal Tech - Series of projects expanding the use of technology and data to improve justice outcomes for vulnerable people.

  • Expansion of pro bono in the UK - Series of projects to grow institutional commitment to pro bono service and improve access to justice for vulnerable people.

  • Legal Aid Systems - Series of initiatives to strengthen legal aid systems:

    • UK - Working with the Law Centres Network to develop and promote new funding model for CLCs

    • UK - Submissions to MoJ review of Legal Aid

    • LDCs - Research and report on legal aid in the 47 Least Developed Countries.

  • Expansion of pro bono in the UK - Series of projects to grow institutional commitment to pro bono service and improve access to justice for vulnerable people.

Pro bono.

Current projects/priorities:

  • Supporting the development of a pro bono culture globally (working with BABSEA CLE in Asia; PILnet in Europe)

  • Piloting various models for stakeholder/rights-holder participation, researching examples of best practice and preparing a thought-leadership piece promoting the benefits of improved stakeholder participation in pro bono (with I.G. Advisors)

  • Expanding pro bono legal services for refugees and other displaced people globally

  • Global partnership between DLA Piper and UNICEF focusing on protecting the rights of children in contact with the law

Technology.

Current projects/priorities:

  • Convening the second Access to Justice and Technology Summit.

  • Tech enabled, un-bundled family law advice platform (with Macquarie University Law School)

  • Implementation of the Gateway, a tech platform developed by Justice Connect

  • Creating standardized data sets for pro bono service providers to improve data analytics potential
